IVF for International Patients in India: Costs, Success Rates, and Process

Mon Aug 10 2026

India has become one of the world's most trusted destinations for IVF and fertility treatment. International patients choose India for a straightforward reason: they receive world-class care and success rates that match top clinics in the UK, US, and Europe, at roughly 60 to 80% lower cost, with no long waiting lists and no complex pre-approvals. For couples who have been trying for years, this can be the difference between "waiting and hoping" and finally starting treatment.

At Delhi IVF & Fertility Research Centre, we have cared for patients from more than 66 countries since 1993, delivered over 25,000 babies, and pioneered advanced fertility treatment in India, including Delhi's first ICSI baby in 1996. This guide, prepared by our specialists, explains everything an international patient needs to know about IVF in India: costs, success rates, the process, timelines, and what makes for a safe, well-supported medical journey.

Why International Patients Choose India for IVF

India is now a leading global hub for fertility treatment, and for good reason. Patients travel from the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, the Middle East, Africa, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and much of Europe for a combination of advantages that are hard to match elsewhere:

  1. World-class success rates comparable to top international clinics
  2. 60 to 80% lower cost than in the UK, US, or Western Europe
  3. English-speaking doctors and staff, with widely understood communication
  4. No long waiting lists, treatment can usually begin within days of arrival
  5. Access to advanced techniques such as ICSI, blastocyst culture, laser-assisted hatching, and genetic screening (PGT-A/M/SR)
  6. Well-regulated ART centres under India's ART Act (2021)
  7. A supportive medical-tourism ecosystem with visa help, airport transfers, and hotel tie-ups

For many international couples, this combination of quality, affordability, and accessibility makes India the most practical choice for successful fertility treatment.

IVF Cost in India for International Patients

One of the biggest reasons foreign patients choose India for IVF is the significant cost advantage. The table below gives a general idea of international patient costs, based on published clinic ranges. Final cost depends on your individual protocol, the medicines used, and any add-on treatments.

TreatmentApproximate cost in India (USD)Approximate cost in UK / USA (USD)
One IVF cycle3,000 to 5,00012,000 to 25,000
IVF with ICSI3,500 to 6,00015,000 to 30,000
Frozen embryo transfer (FET)1,000 to 2,0004,000 to 7,000
IUI300 to 6001,500 to 4,000
Egg or sperm freezing1,500 to 3,0006,000 to 12,000
Genetic screening (PGT-A)1,500 to 3,0004,000 to 7,000

What is typically included for international patients: doctor consultations, all scans and blood tests, egg retrieval, embryo culture, embryo transfer, medications during treatment, and follow-up. Airport pick-up, translator, and hotel arrangements can usually be added.

What is usually extra: international travel, accommodation, extended stay costs, and any add-on procedures such as ICSI or genetic testing that are not part of the base package.

Once you contact the clinic and share your history, a specialist can send you a personalised quote based on your case.

IVF Success Rates in India

Success rates in leading Indian IVF centres are comparable to those in the UK, US, and Europe. However, IVF success is highly dependent on age, diagnosis, and embryo quality, so we prefer to give honest, age-based ranges rather than a single flattering headline number.

Age groupApproximate IVF success rate per cycle
Under 3545 to 55%
35 to 3735 to 45%
38 to 4025 to 35%
41 to 4215 to 25%
Above 42Lower; donor eggs are often recommended

Realistic counselling is central to good fertility care. For many older women or those with low ovarian reserve, using donor eggs significantly improves the chances of success, because IVF success depends on egg quality as well as the treatment itself. During your first consultation, a specialist will give you a personalised estimate based on your reports and age.

IVF Treatments Available for International Patients

Delhi IVF offers the full range of advanced fertility treatments used in leading international centres. Depending on your diagnosis, your treatment plan may include:

  1. In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) for a wide range of infertility causes
  2. Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) for male infertility and previous IVF failure
  3. Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) for mild male-factor or unexplained infertility
  4. Blastocyst culture and transfer for stronger embryo selection
  5. Laser-assisted hatching in selected cases
  6. Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT-A, PGT-M, PGT-SR) for genetic screening
  7. Egg and sperm freezing for fertility preservation
  8. Donor egg and donor sperm programs were clinically indicated
  9. Male infertility procedures, including MESA, PESA, and TESA

A quick note on surrogacy for international patients: under India's Surrogacy (Regulation) Act 2021, surrogacy is available only to eligible Indian couples on an altruistic basis. Foreign nationals cannot access surrogacy in India. We share this openly so international patients can plan realistically from the start.

The IVF Process for International Patients: Step by Step

We know that traveling abroad for fertility treatment can feel overwhelming. The process below is designed to be simple, structured, and remote-friendly wherever possible.

Step 1: Online consultation before you travel

You share your medical history and previous reports by email or a secure portal. Our specialist reviews everything and holds a video consultation with you to explain your diagnosis, likely treatment plan, expected timeline, and a personalised cost estimate.

Step 2: Pre-treatment preparation

Certain baseline tests, such as hormone panels and a semen analysis, can often be done in your home country and shared with the clinic in advance. This shortens the time you need to spend in India.

Step 3: Arrival and confirmation of the plan

Once you arrive in Delhi, you meet the team in person, complete any remaining tests, and finalise your treatment plan and medication schedule.

Step 4: Ovarian stimulation and monitoring

You start daily hormone injections for about 10 to 12 days to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs, with regular ultrasound and blood monitoring at the clinic.

Step 5: Egg retrieval

A short, painless procedure performed under light sedation, typically taking 20 to 30 minutes.

Step 6: Fertilisation and embryo culture

The eggs are fertilised in the lab, either through conventional IVF or ICSI. The embryos are grown for 3 to 5 days.

Step 7: Embryo transfer

The best embryo is transferred into the uterus in a simple, pain-free procedure. Extra embryos can be frozen for future use.

Step 8: Beta hCG blood test

Approximately 12 to 14 days after transfer, a blood test confirms the pregnancy. From this point, we support you until you return home safely for ongoing prenatal care.

How Long Do International Patients Stay in India?

Time is often the biggest practical question. The typical stay depends on the treatment type.

  1. Fresh IVF or ICSI cycle: around 4 weeks. Some patients split this into two shorter visits (initial consultation and pre-tests, then main treatment).
  2. Frozen embryo transfer (FET): around 2 weeks.
  3. IUI cycle: around 2 weeks.
  4. Egg freezing: around 2 to 3 weeks.

Split treatment models can significantly reduce time away from work, especially for patients traveling from Europe, Africa, or the Middle East.

Medical Visa for IVF in India

International patients travelling for fertility treatment typically require a Medical Visa (MV) to enter India. A Medical Attendant Visa (MX) is available for up to two family members accompanying the patient. Requirements usually include:

  1. A valid passport
  2. A letter from a recognised Indian hospital or clinic confirming your treatment
  3. Basic financial and travel documents

If your stay exceeds 180 days, you will need to register with the FRRO (Foreigners Regional Registration Office). Our international patient team helps you with the paperwork and the letters required for the visa application, so this rarely becomes a stumbling block.
